BERRY GOOD BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE

As I mentioned before, Kyle will drink smoothies, occasionally. I am thankful for this because it is seriously the only time he even allows fruit near him. As of now this one is his favorite but I am working on others that might include some greens (shh.. don’t tell him).

I chose these specific ingredients because they all benefit the body in different ways. The smoothie is full of berries, thus lots of antioxidants. I used wild blueberries, specifically, because they have more antioxidants than the normal variety. Reminder, if you use regular milk it can actually decrease the amount of antioxidants available from the blueberries for your body to use. Be mindful of that. So, I use almond milk because I like it, but there are other options if you don’t. The oatmeal is important because it contains fiber which will help you feel full until lunch time. I have also made the smoothie with 1/3 cup oatmeal and I liked it and felt full for longer. Kyle just didn’t like the taste as much with more oatmeal so I lowered the amount for him. So, if you try this and find yourself getting a little hungry before lunch then add a little more oatmeal and flaxseed. I didn’t think it changed the taste – Kyle is CRAZY.

Anyways, back to the smoothie. I mentioned in previous posts that flaxseeds are high in omega-3 fats, which are good for decreasing inflammation, but also helps you to feel full longer. I love this smoothie, Kyle LOVES this smoothie, and I hope you do too!

I tried a different version today with strawberries, mango and bananas with chia seeds in addition to the flaxseeds and he really liked it. Woohoo!
